World champion beer
When the world champion Phillies (I just can’t say that enough!) open their season at the Citz in next week, beer lovers will find a few newbies in what is arguably the best tap lineup in the majors.
The big addition: Victory Prima Pils. The classic German-style pils from Downingtown will pour alongside two other award winners of the same style, Troegs Sunshine Pils and Sly Fox Pikeland Pils. Together, these three beers have racked up at least four GABF medals and a World Beer Cup.
What else? Red Hook ESB, which didn’t move very well, is gone. It’s replaced by Red Hook Longhammer (which I think will still get blown away by Victory HopDevil). Also new: Blue Moon (including its seasonal Honey Moon), Heineken, Dos Equis, Smitwick’s and Woodchuck cider.
They’ll join veterans, including the aforementioned HopDevil, Yards Philly Pale Ale, Philly Brewing Kenzinger, Flying Fish Extra Pale Ale, Otter Creek, Wolaver’s, Yuengling Lager, Sam Adams Boston Lager and more.
Specialty draft prices will hold the line at $6.50 (plastic bottles will jump 25 cents).
You’ll see a few more bottles, including Sam Adams seasonal, plus those Guinness draft cans.
But the one I’m really looking for is the new Bud aluminum bottle honoring the world champion Phillies. I don’t care about the beer - it’s the bottle I want.
