Is dive a dirty word?
A while back, I took some heat from a tavern owner over my description of her joint as a “dive.” That led me to write this piece on what makes a dive bar. Now there’s word from the Inky’s Michael Klein that the owner of Atlantic City’s Irish Pub is suing a local publication over its description of his place as a dive.
It’s a nuisance lawsuit, of course, but what’s your opinion? Is “dive” a diss?

First of all, a bar is suing over a bad review? Thats ridiculous.
Secondly, I use term dive bar frequently and often about places I visit a lot. As you said, it describes a no-frills bar. There are both bad and good dive bars.

If you’re suing, then I guess “dive” is a negative review. There are plenty of great, proud dive bars out there. But if you want to be something better, and you’re being called a dive, then stop suing and start renovating.
